If any of you are currently dieting, we might want to suggest skipping this one right from the get-go. Trust us when we tell you that nothing good will come out of watching all these delicious sweet treats spinning in front of you except giving you a desire to eat something sweet yourself. And to be fair, we were also struck with quite a Sugar Rush when we gave this Pragmatic Play slot a try. It was released in July 2015, it offers a medium volatility and a 450x fixed jackpot being the biggest score you can win in the game. It doesn’t have a lot of special features, and the ones it does are rather straight-forward and to the point. One is a solid cash prize, while the other rewards a bunch of free spins.
The offered visuals are decent, though we can’t say we’re particularly blown away by them. The town backdrop looks good, but it doesn’t really evoke any particular feeling one way or the other, and we’re a bit disappointed that it’s –this- title that has transparent reels to allow us to see more of the backdrop. Even the symbols are somewhat boring and uninspired. You have Q, K and A, as well as several types and colours of candy that don’t really stick out apart from the aforementioned colours. Perhaps it’s just a poor theme choice, because none of what we’ve seen has really stood out to us, even though everything clearly has work put into it. Normal gameplay is usually spent in a rather boring wait for the special features to be activated, few and far in between as they unfortunately are. There are no bonuses that serve to spice up regular gameplay, leaving you to just keep spinning and hope for the best.
The first special feature you can win is done by collecting three or more Scatters, which will reward between ten to twenty free spins. More specifically, three, four or five Scatters will reward ten, fifteen or twenty extra turns, respectively. There also aren’t any additional interactions with the free spins like there usually are. It’s a rather basic feature, and while the amount of extra turns makes up for any interesting interactions, it doesn’t help the fact that it’s just not that interesting to hit it. The second feature, the bonus symbol, is even worse, as you need to collect three cupcakes on a single payline to get its reward. While you can collect more for a bigger prize, the amount of luck you have to get for it compared to the cash prize it brings is just not worth it, in our honest opinion.
In many ways, we would describe Sugar Rush as basic. We won’t barrage it too hard, given that it’s been released three years ago, but even back then, you had slot developers creating and devising some fun, new ways to play. Back then, it would have no doubt been an average release. Today, it’s somewhat subpar compared to other titles. Not bad, by any means, however, and if you liked what you saw, you should give it a try.
